Cuba
in
Chicago
A Latin Percussion Program in Oak Park, IL
June
27 to July 2, 2011
For
the last five years, The Contemporary Music Project has been conducting
a Latin percussion program in Morelia Mexico. This
year, we are moving it to Oak Park, IL!
Cuba in Chicago will bring some of the world’s best-known Latin
percussionists together with a talented group of students to study
the instruments, rhythms
and history of Cuban music. There is no other program of this quality anywhere
in the Midwest.Come
to Chicago and study:
Congas are the foundation
of Cuban percussion, but not everyone teaches correctly or knows
the newest developments in conga
technique. Whether you want to develop
good basic technique or learn the newest Timba patterns, this is the place
to study.
Timbales are the
key to all Latin stick drumming, including drum set. There are
a range of musical styles and techniques
which must
be mastered in order
to play with today’s musicians. Roberto Vizcaino will include timbales
as well as congas in his classes.
Drum Set is one of the most challenging instruments to play knowledgeably
and with a good time feel. Learn to play Cuban-style drum set with one
of its masters.
Batá Drumming reaches
to the very roots of Cuban percussion. There is no more rich, complicated,
or beautiful type of drumming anywhere. Come explore
the world of batá!

like to learn, let us know and we can set up classes for
you as well!
The
number of openings listed on the site will change as people register
and the program fills up.
The
exact structure of the classes will depend on the levels and collective
interests of the participants.
While
we encourage each participant to pick their class and teacher,

words, if the teacher believes
you are in the wrong class, you will be asked to change to another group.
